Mediation Dorset is based in Dorchester and provides a community mediation service
across the county of Dorset (including Bournemouth and Poole).
Mediation is a voluntary process in which the mediators help people who are in dispute
to work together to solve their problem. The solution is chosen, negotiated and
agreed by the people themselves with the support of trained volunteer mediators.
Mediation helps people to try and find a way forward from their present situation
so that they can continue to live together or close by but without the continuing
conflict. In the past some people who have used it have found it to be a great help
in resolving disputes which otherwise would have dragged on and got worse.
Mediation techniques have been used effectively by Mediation Dorset for many years
to resolve disputes within the community, between neighbours, in the workplace,
in schools, between family members, between offenders and their victims and for
the homeless.
Mediation Dorset also runs various training courses throughout the year. We carry
out training in mediation skills and deliver conflict resolution training to other
organisations and in the community - including free 3 day courses in ‘effective
listening & communication skills’ aimed at getting people back into work.
